Key focus areas
From the implementation of various community projects and conducting several studies, Friends of the Poor-Kasese has noted that there is a gap in awareness on issues regarding human rights and the laws and policies related to this subject among the population and the local authorities. Most people don’t know their entitlements and are ignorant about what to demand for and where to seek support when their rights are violated on and this is a major cause of poverty which needs great interventions.
FOP-K will address the above by supporting initiatives geared towards creating awareness on rights and the related policies and laws build the capacity of local authorities to handle and refer cases of rights abuses and empower communities with advocacy skills so as to be able to demand for their entitlements.
FOP-K will also promote the right to food by encouraging community members to embrace kitchen gardening as a means of food and health security.
With focus on Kilembe and Karusandara Sub-counties, FOP-K is currently running a campaign to demand for financial and material support to enable us reach out to the population that lost lots of their property and currently being hosted in camps that are hard to leave in in relation to the current COVID-19 pandemic requirements/guidelines by the Uganda Ministry of Health and WHO. At the moment people are struggling for survival and resettling with little or no attention being paid to the guidelines which puts their lives at risk.. Read more
